India’s poor tribal people have far worse health indicators than the general population. Most tribal people live in remote rural hamlets in hilly, forested or desert areas where illiteracy, trying physical environments, malnutrition, inadequate access to potable water, and lack of personal hygiene and sanitation make them more vulnerable to disease.
This is compounded by the lack of awareness among these populations about the measures needed to protect their health, their distance from medical facilities, the lack of all-weather roads and affordable transportation, insensitive and discriminatory behavior by staff at medical facilities, financial constraints and so on.
Satyavaram is one such Tribal village which falls into the above category. SVS aims to provide Medical support to such villages through various programs like conducting free Medical camps, Financial Support, Educating the villagers, and other Services.
SVS teams up with the local panchayat and the leaders of the village to conduct free medical Camps, where Doctors and Nursing staff setup a camp and conduct the routine physical and diagnose and appropriate medicines are provided. They also refer to specialized Hospitals if the condition is severe. Another aim of the Medical Camp is to educate the people and create awareness on several topics like prevention of diseases, cleanliness, and the steps to follow during sickness. SVS provides financial support the villagers who cannot afford to go to the city for specialized treatment.
At SVS, we focus on serving two distinct populations; orphans and widows.
Since 1993, we have been developing focus programs aimed at empowering our target populations by addressing their unique life situations.
But at the heart of every program is our belief that people experience healing in relationship with God and each other. SVS empowers the church to come around widows and support them in practical and emotional ways. They are given financial support as well as spiritual support to fight various battles as they live alone in this World.
Education is the road that children follow to reach their full potential in life.
Yet many children in need do not get a quality education where they can learn and develop. SVS helps such children to fulfill their dreams. SVS conducts various awareness programs to create awareness amongst the illiterate parents the importance of education and how educating their children is such a great idea. SVS also provides financial support to children who do not have the required financial aid to continue their education and thus showing them the Eternal Love that Jesus showed us.
Increasing agricultural productivity is a critical first step in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals of ending hunger and poverty. When farmers grow more food and earn more income, they are better able to feed their families, send their children to school, provide for their family’s health, and invest in their farms. SVS helps farmers improve their yields by using comprehensive approach that includes the use of seeds that are more resistant to disease, drought, and flooding; information from trusted local sources about more productive farming techniques and technologies; greater access to markets; and government policies that serve the interests of farming families. SVS also develops a model farm using these agricultural techniques so that the farmers can have a firsthand look on the farm and productivity. This also builds trust in the hearts of the farmers, which helps in the expansion of the kingdom of god.
